Mar 16, 2024, Mass General Hospital announced that their surgeons successfully completed an allogeneic kidney transplantation. A genetically edited pig kidney was put into a 62 years-old male who suffered from end stage kidney disease for more than 7 years. This was the first case in the world and a historic milestone in the emerging field of xenotransplantation – the transplantation of organs from one species to another. This may be a solution to deal with the shortage of organs.
